Privacy Policy for GroceryGenius

GroceryGenius uses information you provide to manage groceries, recipes, shopping history, and meal-planning conversations.

Account and saved information

Firebase Authentication processes your email address and authentication credentials. Firebase stores your account profile, grocery lists, recipes, shopping history, and meal chats so they are available when you sign in. Do not include information in notes or chats that you do not want stored.

Your allergies and dietary preferences are stored on this device for your account. Encrypted copies of your last meal plan and grocery list are saved on this device for offline viewing and removed on sign-out. Saved-account information is kept in Keychain.

AI requests and sharing

Before your first AI request, the app asks permission to share meal-planning information. When you allow and submit a request, your prompt, groceries, dietary preferences, allergies, and recent chat context are sent through Cloudflare to OpenAI to generate a response. Cloudflare receives account identifiers and authentication tokens to verify your account and enforce usage limits. The provider receives the meal-planning request rather than your authentication token.

You can withdraw permission for future AI requests in Settings → Privacy & AI data. This does not delete information already submitted or saved chats. Provider processing and retention also depend on their applicable policies and the deployed service configuration. We do not sell personal information or use it for advertising.

Microphone and speech recognition

Microphone access is requested only for voice input. Apple speech recognition may process audio using Apple services, depending on device capabilities. GroceryGenius does not keep audio recordings. Recognized text is sent for AI processing only when you submit a request after allowing AI sharing.

Retention and deletion

Saved account data remains available until removed by you or through account deletion. You can initiate permanent account deletion from Settings → Account & security → Delete account. The deletion service must be operational to accept and complete this request; a failed request is not a completed deletion. Contact us if the account service is unavailable or you need help with a privacy request.
